ALWAYSE-Engineering-Logo

Founded in 1941, Alwayse Engineering is a Birmingham-based global leader in movement solutions. They’re renowned for their Ball Transfer Units (BTUs), which enable efficient, multi-directional movement. Now they export to 60 countries, their workplace technology wasn’t on the ball! They called in RDS to spin-up a comprehensive IT, print and telecommunications overhaul.

The Summary

As Alwayse Engineering expanded, their IT infrastructure and office systems began to falter. Their reliance on a small, local IT provider limited their ability to scale, while fragmented print and outdated telecommunications systems further contributed to operational inefficiencies. Their IT simply wasn’t playing ball. The issues included:

  • Outdated Print Systems: Printing assets were scattered across departments, leading to inconsistent performance and difficulty managing the fleet.
  • Inefficient IT Support: The project manager was stretched thin, having to oversee IT issues without sufficient support from their local provider.
  • Analogue Phone System: The company’s phone system was outdated, reducing internal communication efficiency.
  • Scalability Issues: Alwayse needed systems that could support future growth while addressing immediate concerns around operational efficiency and data security.

These issues were slowing their roll, affecting not only day-to-day tasks but also the company’s ability to focus on strategic growth and innovation.

The Solution

To address these challenges, RDS rolled-out a comprehensive IT, print and telecommunications overhaul. Their approach included:

  • Print Consolidation: RDS replaced Alwayse’s scattered print infrastructure with a unified, fully managed network printing solution. This streamlined the management of printing assets and reduced the burden on internal teams.
  • IT Support and Help Desk: RDS’ Managed IT service took over all IT support and help desk operations, ensuring that Alwayse’s infrastructure technology requirements are met efficiently with minimal disruption. RDS also managed hardware procurement and licence management, ensuring efficiency and value for Alwayse’s technology investments.
  • Telecommunications Upgrade: RDS replaced the outdated analogue phone system with a modern, unified comms solution. This upgrade greatly improved communication across the company and was fully managed by RDS’ Support Desk, ensuring seamless service.
  • Mobile Phone and SIM Management: In addition to internal communication systems, RDS now handles Alwayse’s mobile phone assets and SIM management. This comprehensive package helps ensure reliable and efficient mobile communications.

The Benefits

  1. 1Enhanced Operational Efficiency - The unified print and IT systems streamlined processes and freed internal staff from managing complex infrastructures.
  2. 2Improved Communication - Upgrading to a modern digital phone system enhanced both internal and external communication.
  3. 3Increased Scalability - Alwayse’s IT infrastructure is now future-proof, capable of supporting growth without additional operational strain.
  4. 4Sustainability Gains - Alwayse’s existing commitment to sustainability includes the use of 90% recycled materials in their BTUs and the recycling of all plastic, cardboard and oil by-products. These initiatives were complemented by the efficiency and eco-friendliness of RDS’ managed services, aligning with their long-term environmental goals.
